Sawai Miyuu's Kiss DVD

Sawai Miyuu returns to the idol world with the release of her DVD "Kiss." It has been nearly two years since the release of her last DVD "Me & You." With the busy schedule of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon, Sawai Miyuu even dropped her modelling contract with Love Berry. Therefore, when she returned to the idol world, she made sure everyone will be surprised. Sawai Miyuu's DVD reveal's her sultry side. Me & You showed her as a kid, but Kiss highlights the fact that she's growing up. The DVD focuses on the essence of what a stereotypical asian girl is seen to be like. Shy, sorrowful, hopefuly, playful, etc. She's growing up!

XD Kiss is going to amuse Chinese folks like crazy. It starts out in Miyuu's hotel room. In the background, is the melody of a old chinese song that ANY fan of asian cinema would recognize. Miyuu is sitting on the bed, holding the phones to her ears and saying in chinese, "Hello? What are you doing right now?" ^__^;; Uh... She speaks better chinese than I do! Ha ha. x.x;; (I'm suck.)

Off the bat, I like this DVD better than Ayaka's. Ayaka's first DVD was just showing her walking around in a swim suit ALL freakin' day long. It had no aim at all. ^.^;; And the whiny emo music in the background gave me a headache. But the part about Ayaka's Figure A that bugged me most of all, was that the people filming it was trying to say, "This is Ayaka." x.x;; Kiss was done in a different approach. Its a good thing to remember that Sawai Miyuu was NOT being herself in the DVD. She was trying to be put in different roles of a stereotypical asian girl.

As Miyuu is put into different scenes, the camera stops and she stares into it. Kinda like the camera is saying, "Now this is a girl in a chinese temple." Afterwards, you'd get to see Miyuu doing different things. =) When she was walking around at night, it was a late night snack. People in Taiwan and Hong Kong do this a lot. She even bought a bulba drink. (Com'on... You know!! Tapioca Express? Lollicup?)

Overall, the music, atmosphere, and the curiosity at the director's attempt to portray an asian girl, kept me amused. As an idol DVD, its different. I'll be honest though.... I don't like idol DVDs. ^.^;; They bore me to death. If this DVD didn't have all these elements that I, as a chinese girl was used to while growing up, I would not enjoy it.

Overall, I thought this was a very good DVD. I especially liked their format where they alternate between normal everyday clothes and bathing suits. It keeps each different segment refreshing so you don't get tired of 5 different bikini segments in a row. There are lots of different settings you see throughout the DVD - beaches, temples, night market, bedroom, forest, and swimming pool. Lots of variety in clothing and environment helps keep everything interesting so you enjoy watching the DVD all the way through. I thought the choice of music was pretty good as well. Each different setting had its own music to define the mood. The ones at the beach were more somber than the other settings, which is why most of the swimwear scenes show Miyuu being somber or pensive. This is why I really liked the other scenes, especially the night market and the forest scenes. The night market sequence had her interacting with a few vendors and generally shows the bubbly side of her which we have gotten used to. As the DVD was shot in Taiwan, I thought including a night market sequence was very appropriate. Late-nite shopping and snacking is part of their culture and it was great to see Miyuu immerse herself in it. The same goes for the temple scenes and seeing Miyuu wearing a traditional Chinese dress. All in all, a very well paced production.

How would I describe this? Boring.... Don't get me wrong Miyuu is very cute and has very beautiful eyes, but this didn't work for her. She only smiles a little in this. The rest of the time she isn't and looks like she is about to cry. The screen transitions were extremely annoying and the music was like Lobby/Elevator type. (At least Ayaka's had some rockin alternative music backing it up.)The only thing I actually liked about it was when she was our good old genki Miyuu, the scenery of China, and her in that traditional Chinese dress. Bikini wasn't too bad either, but once again not too many smiles. I personally like the bonus better. Genki Miyuu! If the movie was more like this,I would think it would be alot better. So in conclusion...an hour of pure boredom for me. Sorry Miyuu!

Thanks to Staff Member Mike for giving me the opportunity to even watch this in the first place. Arigato! Xie Xie!
