Chieco Kawabe "When I was in 4th grade, I saw Amuro Namie-san and thought, 'One of these days, I want to become a singer...'" Chieco Kawabe has been a face on the pages of "Love Berry" issues for years now. Although her appearance in the magazine has gradually dwindled as of late, her face and name is widely recognized more than ever. Now at the age of 18, not only is she living her dream, she is anticipating the release of her first album, "Brilliance." As a fan, I am truly happy for her and hope that her album will launch her into main stream Jpop society. It has been over a year since I found out about Chieco Kawabe. ^__^ It was through that wonderful show, "Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon." She landed the role of Osaka Naru and viewers were doomed to see her run and scream from monsters on TV. However, PGSM was not her first gig, nor would it be her last. Chieco has been in the entertainment business since she was 12 years old. She started out appearing in magazine ads for her talent agency, Theatre Academy. Along the way, in the year 2000, Chieco earned the spot of Sailor Mercury in the "Sera Myu" stage musicals. She would be known to Sera Myu fans as the best stage Sailor Mercury ever. Not long after becoming an exclusive model for "Love Berry" fashion magazine, Chieco was launched into the world of Japanese idols. She had her own DVDs such as POP! and was featured in movies like Mou Hitori Iru. But these were not the elements that made her famous. Chieco held onto her dream of being able to become a professional singer. She sung and danced live at Love Berry's fashion shows every year. "Love Berry's" fan based loved her and she even released a single (15 no Blues) with fellow LB model Mizuho Oda. In the year 2004, after receiving a record contract with Vap, Chieco released her first solo single "Be Your Girl." This would be the song that would help her win her place in the heart of many fans. I was not really impressed when I heard about the release of her single, "Be Your Girl." I have heard music coming from Japanese "idols" and believe me: It ain't pretty. I was expecting to hate the song and say, "BOO!! You can't sing!" BUT, I was proven VERY wrong. First time hearing "Be Your Girl," the first words that popped in my head were, "Oh my gawd... She CAN sing..." Other fans must have thought so too, because not long later, her songs were being passed around bittorent sites, mp3 rotation sites, that weren't associated with the Sailor Moon or LB fan base at all. Chieco Kawabe's voice was suddenly being compared to mega big Japanese singers like Tommy February 6. She gained even more attention when "Be Your Girl" was chosen to be the ending theme song to the popular anime, "Elfen Lied." Since then, everyone has been anticipating the next single that would come from the surprising talent. Over the last year, Chieco has gone on to release three singles total: Be Your Girl, Shining!, and Kizunairo. Her song "I Can't Wait" is now the Japanese theme song to the hit show, Lizzie McGuire. With the upcoming release of her first album, Brilliance, she is well on her way to mega stardom. Chieco Kawabe has come a long way for someone of her young age. Her success is not based upon her looks but rather pure talent. She had a dream, she worked hard, and she strived for it. Following the details of her career, anyone can see that she is one of the very few who are able to live out their dreams. Remember the name Chieco Kawabe because you will be hearing a lot about her in the future. ^__^ Let her Be Your Girl ! Special Thanks to:
